Global creative and media agency VaynerMedia has appointed Chan Woei Hern (pictured) as its new head of creative for the APAC region, succeeding VJ Anand, who recently took on a global and EMEA creative mandate, based at the agency’s London office.

Chan assumes his role with immediate effect and reports to Tim Lindley, managing director of APAC, VaynerMedia.

An industry pioneer with extensive experience across consumer segments, Chan’s appointment further strengthens VaynerMedia’s credentials as an integrated consumer-centric agency. He also brings over two decades of experience in the advertising world across the creative, media, content and film segments.

“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some amazing people at VaynerMedia,” said Chan Woei Hern. “The empathy and the energy of everyone I’ve met were really inspiring and infectious, to say the least. Every chat was something that stayed in my head and heart. I can’t wait to see what an amazing adventure this will be to bring the culture to life through the work we do together as a team.”

Chan joins VaynerMedia from VMLY&R Commerce where he was the executive creative director of Malaysia and Southeast Asia and was responsible for the integration and acceleration of growth in the areas of creative commerce.

Previously he has built and led creative teams at Naga DDB, Dentsu and ensemble IPG Mediabrands. He has worked with clients such as Grab, Nippon Paint, Maxis Communications, Petronas and Munchy’s, amongst others.

A big supporter of social causes, Chan was involved as a mentor at Malaysia’s Global Innovation Centre’s Accelerator Programme for social enterprises and with Cancer Research Malaysia as a consultant creative.

Commenting on the appointment, Tim Lindley said: “When we started looking for VJ’s successor in APAC, we knew we had some big shoes to fill. Chan’s name was on top of our dream list. His excitement for our attention-first model, his curiosity across platforms, and his passion to develop great people make us even more excited about the next phase of our growth.”

The independently-owned agency was founded in 2009 and has offices in New York, Los Angeles, London, Singapore, Bangkok, Sydney, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Mexico City. The Asia Pacific team has grown to more than 250 employees within three years of operations in the region.
