Toys "R" Us Asia strengthens payment capabilities across Asia

Toys“R”Us Asia has named Adyen as its online payments provider across multiple markets in Asia. Adyen said with its direct connections to card schemes and local payment methods, Toys“R”Us Asia can bring new markets online as Adyen can process payments in all local currencies. Adyen's payments solution can also add new local payment methods as they become available. Moreover, the integrated back-end, centralised customer relationship management solution of Adyen offers Toys“R”Us insights for business and marketing plans.
Over the past years, Toys“R”Us Asia has undertaken a digital transformation, optimising its existing eCommerce service as part of its broader strategy to adapt to how customers are shopping today. In strengthening its online presence and enhancing the customer experience, Toys“R”Us wanted a payments experience that integrated smoothly with their new and existing systems. By collaborating with Adyen, Toys“R”Us Asia said it could have a better overview of payments data and the ability to offer shoppers local payment methods. These include AlipayHK and WeChat Pay HK in Hong Kong, and GrabPay MY in Malaysia.
“Toys“R”Us stores are known across the Asia region as the destination for the best range of toys which fuel a child’s imagination and which parents trust, but we know that shoppers today also want the same convenient and enjoyable experience shopping at Toys“R”Us online. By partnering with Adyen, we can focus on growing our online footprint to reach even more customers and recreating that seamless Toys“R”Us shopping experience online,” said Tim Halaska, regional GM of digital strategy at Toys“R”Us Asia.
Warren Hayashi, president of Asia Pacific at Adyen, also added, “Online shoppers today expect to be able to buy across platforms and pay in their local currency and preferred payment method. Adyen gives Toys“R”Us actionable payment insight on its shoppers to help transform and grow its eCommerce presence in the region.”
Previously, Toys "R" Us' parent company WHP Global has partnered with NFT platform Ethernity to launch the toy brand's first non-fungible token (NFT) collection. The limited-edition NFT collectibles feature the brand's iconic giraffe mascot Geoffrey, and is available for sale in digital marketplace OpenSea.
Titled "Geoffrey Through the Years", the NFT collection was created by digital artist Bryan Lopez, better known as Exacto. The collection includes six separate editions in pop-art style, Warhol-inspired modern portraits of Geoffrey, each one a reflection of the mascot's look from 1960 to present day.
Additionally, the NFT collection also includes an exclusive 3D NFT titled "The Geoffrey Stroll", which is currently being auctioned - auctions will close on 17 November 2021. The 3D NFT features Geoffrey as he "steps into a bright new future" to the tune of a modern instrumental version of the Toys "R" Us jingle "I Don't Want to Grow Up, I'm a Toys "R" Us Kid". The buyer of this NFT will also have the chance to attend a US Toys "R" Us store grand opening in 2022 with a guest, including transportation to that city and a two-night hotel stay.
