TikTok Shop Malaysia recently revealed that it intends to push out a series of marketing and promotional support tools for its merchants. This includes more subsidies so that more entrepreneurs and creators can kickstart their eCommerce journey or expand their businesses. These updates were announced at the TikTok Shop Summit 2023.

Merchants on TikTok Shop will reportedly enjoy a rise in product subsidies by a hundred-fold and receive 0% commission for purchases made by customers through the “Shop” tab, according to The Edge Malaysia. The “Shop” tab is where sellers can share their product recommendations via product listings.

Additionally, as part of its shoppertainment efforts, TikTok Shop also reportedly wants to increase LIVE sessions, which is a popular mix of entertainment and commerce. This allows the merchants to connect with their audiences better.

TikTok launched TikTok Shop in Malaysia in April last year, which quickly became an effective eCommerce solutions provider for its users.

Earlier this year, Malaysian buy-now-pay-later app, Atome, partnered with TikTok Shop to enable businesses of all sizes, particularly among young entrepreneurs and SMEs. This was to harness the potential of online shopping and foster greater economic growth in the country.

Head of commercial at Atome, William Yang added that by integrating Atome as a payment option on TikTok shop, it could drive eCommerce growth while also providing consumers with the choice, convenience and flexibility of how they want to shop and pay.

While in Malaysia, TikTok Shop has encouraged more sellers, across the shore in Indonesia, TikTok Shop was recently banned by the Indonesia government. This was a consequence of TikTok's failure to make TikTok Shop a standalone app after being given a one-week deadline to become a standalone app.

The Indonesian government said that the regulations were aimed at helping protect local physical and online retailers.
