The Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel has collaborated with the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) to unveil an inaugural glassware design competition, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the hotel’s history by inspiring young talent.
The event is part of the hotel’s “Artist Incubator Programme”, which is one of the key initiatives celebrating the anniversary, aiming to fulfill the hotel’s commitment to supporting and nurturing local artistic talent in Hong Kong.
The programme has invited students to create a unique glass themed “Where Heritage Meets Innovation”, in conjunction with the hotel’s brand-new gin, a project done in partnership with local distillery Two Moons. The winning design will be available to guests at the SKYE Roofbar & Brasserie in December.
“Connection”, a design concept by Eunice Tsang, took the first prize. Her creation symbolises the joy of gathering with friends, and each intricate detail in the design aims to make every sip a tribute to life’s shared moments. Guests will be able to use the winning glassware in mid-December, bringing local creativity into their dining experience.
Done in collaboration with Golin Hong Kong, for PR and social media to facilitate the collaboration, the partnership is promoted through the hotel's social media platforms and various media channels to reach a wider audience.
In a conversation with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, a spokesperson from The Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel, said this initiative reinforces the hotel's commitment to fostering the local art community and aligns with the launch of its exclusive gin, specially crafted for the hotel’s 50th anniversary, providing a unique platform for students to showcase their creativity.
"This initiative will unleash artistic talents in Hong Kong while synergising with the launch of The Park Lane’s PL50 gin, allowing students’ creativity to be showcased on a larger stage. This visibility can inspire marketers and advertisers to engage with local talent, fostering innovative collaborations in the future," the spokesperson added.
The partnership mainly concentrates on educational purposes, providing HKDI Year One students with valuable experiences, learning opportunities, as well as scholarships and dining credits as prizes to the finalists.
In addition to the glassware competition, the programme has invited local artistic talents, including painters Pei Chung, Charlotte Lui, upcycling product designer Kevin Cheung, artist Maggie Chiu, embroidery artist Stephanie Kwok, and mixed-media artist Giraffe Leung, to showcase their work. Their creations, celebrating Hong Kong’s unique mix of tradition and modernity, will debut in January 2025 at the Ebb & Flow lounge in the hotel.
As part of the hotel’s artistic programme, six emerging artists have transformed their rooms into creative spaces inspired by the theme “Where Heritage Meets Innovation” and the vibrant Causeway Bay neighbourhood. This collection of artworks, blending local culture with modern insights, will be on display for six months at Ebb & Flow from January 2025.
Luc Bollen, general manager at The Park Lane Hong Kong, a Pullman Hotel, said, “We are proud to highlight our ongoing commitment to nurturing young artistic talents. This collaboration with HKDI not only reflects our long-standing dedication to sustainability and the development of the arts in Hong Kong, but also embodies the spirit of our 50th anniversary celebration with PL50."
"This competition is the perfect intersection where heritage meets innovation, showcasing designs that inspire us to dream while remaining grounded in functionality. We believe in fostering creativity that contributes positively to our community and environment," Bollen added.
Lay Lian Ong, principal at HKDI, said “The Hong Kong Design Institute believes that creativity is the bridge between imagination and reality. Our students not only design for the future but also create a dialogue that challenges the norms and inspires innovation in everyday life. We are honoured to be the partner of The Park Lane Hong Kong, providing our year one student with such a valuable experience and opportunity. This collaboration enriches our educational journey and inspires our students to push boundaries. We look forward to more partnerships that foster creativity and drive positive change in our community."
