Days after StarHub unveiled its partnership with Netflix, the telco has dropped a video campaign on Facebook to generate buzz and awareness. Conceptualised in collaboration with creative agency BLKJ, the spot features snippets of popular Netflix shows Money Heist, Stranger Things and Orange Is The New Black, among others.

In a statement to Marketing, Johan Buse, chief of consumer business group, StarHub said teaming up with Netflix was to offer consumers “unlimited entertainment, simplicity and better value”. He added that despite its existing content partners, the telco looks to work closely with all to enhance customers’ entertainment experience.  The concept of the campaign video was in relation to StarHub and Netflix’s HomeHub Plus bundle which is described as a “gateway to a whole new world of entertainment”. Hence, the spot shows doors opening to Netflix shows and programmes.

The video will be amplified on StarHub TV channels, YouTube, Facebook and Golden Village cinemas. Netflix joins the list of streaming platforms HBO GO and BBC Player, which have partnerships with StarHub.

The telco has also previously launched a commercial to announce its partnership with HBO. To promote the new package, StarHub banked on the Game of Thrones hype then. In addition, the campaign was also created to mark the transformation StarHub TV. Created by BLKJ, founder and CEO Rowena Bhagchandani said to Marketing then that the revamp of StarHub TV was the biggest, and the biggest show on earth, as well as in Westeros at that time, was Game Of Thrones between HBO and StarHub. As such, she added that House Stark and House StarHub was the most natural thing for the agency to do to get StarHub in pole position #ForTheThrone.

Earlier this year, StarHub retained Carat as its media agency, after a review in October 2019. The telco had initially reached out to other media agencies for the review, and had invited incumbent Carat to pitch as well. In an exclusive statement to Marketing then, Buse said the telco will continue with Carat as its media agency partner.
