The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (SPCA) and the Kowloon Motor Bus Company (KMB) have teamed up to offer a one-day pet-friendly bus service this Saturday.
This comes along with SPCA's upcoming carnival named Summer Wellness Day (寵物夏季健康慶典) at SPCA Tsing Yi Centre on that day. An exclusive route will be launched operating from Tsuen Wan West to Maritime Square II with a final stop at the SPCA Tsing Yi Centre.
The pet-friendly shuttle provided by KMB will be the first double-decker bus service to allow dogs and cats, while the collaboration aims to bring Hong Kong one step closer to becoming a more pet-inclusive city, according to SPCA’s Instagram post.
The first bus will depart Tsuen Wan West at 11:30 am, while the last bus will depart SPCA Jockey Club Centennial Centre at 5:30 pm. The cost is HK$30 for one passenger and one pet. Seats can be reserved in advance, and a limited number of walk-in spots will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Furthermore, the initiative is sponsored by YAS Insurance. It will provide free WALKY insurance to passengers and their dogs to make the trip worry-free. Passengers can secure the coverage for the bus ride upon successful purchase of the bus ticket and submission of required information.
KMB's Facebook post about the pet-friendly bus service has received over 1,400 likes, 210 comments, and 170 shares, a check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw. While some netizens expressed their support for this initiative, others voiced their hope that it would become a permanent service rather than a one-time event. Meanwhile, the SPCA's Instagram and Facebook posts have received over 690 likes and 600 likes respectively.
Beyond the one-day offering this Saturday, the SPCA said more pet-friendly routes and services will be rolled out in the future.
Don’t miss: SPCA and Hello Kitty join hands to raise awareness of animal welfare
Back in May, SPCA Hong Kong partnered with Hello Kitty, a beloved character under Sanrio Hong Kong, to raise awareness of animal welfare. The year-long campaign also aims to celebrate Hello Kitty's 50th anniversary and the inauguration of the new SPCA centre in Tsing Yi.
Under the theme “Hello Kitty! Hello SPCA!”, the iconic Hello Kitty will take on the role of an SPCA ambassador to bring together different generations of Hongkongers and introduce different facets of animal welfare affecting the society.
