Shopee amasses most visitors among eCommerce firms in Indonesia

Shopee Indonesia has amassed the most website visitors in 2020, recording 90 million total average website visits, according to the eCommerce competition summary by iPrice Group. Meanwhile, Tokopedia had an average of 80 million website visits last year. The data was obtained from SimilarWeb which tracks average monthly website visits.
Both companies performed well during the fourth quarter of 2020 (Q4 2020), with Shopee averaging 129 million visits per month, while Tokopedia clocked 114 million visits during the period. IPrice attributed this to year-end double-digit festive sales such as 10.10, 11.11 and 12.12 which is typically the peak season for eCommerce sites which compete to acquire users.
When it comes to performance on app stores, Shopee has been ranked first consistently on the App Store and Google Play Store since the Q1 2020 of last year. Tokopedia, on the other hand, it has been ranked second on the App Store since Q1 2020 last year. Meanwhile on the Google Play Store, it was ranked third during the first half and fourth in the second half of last year.
As for companies with the most social media followers during Q4 2020, Lazada had the most Facebook likes (30 million), followed by Shopee (19 million) and Sephora (19 million). When it came to Twitter, Tokopedia ranked first with 700k followers in 2020, followed by Shopee with 540k, and Blibli with 510k. According to iPrice, Facebook and Twitter are the top two social media platforms in Indonesia.
Nonetheless, Instagram is also popular among Indonesian consumers. Shopee was ranked first with 7.1 million followers on the platform, followed by Lazada (2.6 million) and Tokopedia (2.4 million). According to the e-Conomy SEA 2020 report by Google, Temasek and Bain & Company, eCommerce formed 72% of the US$44 billion Indonesian digital economy last year.
