Ahead of its global campaign’s official launch, Shangri-La Group’s flagship hotel in its home city, Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, is collaborating with Japanese artist Mika Ninagawa, who will unveil an enchanting artistic experience at the Shangri-La Lounge at Art Basel Hong Kong from 23 to 25 March. The hotel is also bringing a touch of art to guests with a new “Art on the Plate” afternoon tea that is available until 31 March.

The global campaign marks a milestone in the brand’s history of delivering joyful experiences that inspire guests to discover their personal Shangri-La journey.

The Shangri-La Lounge, located near the Art Basel VIP entrance, invites guests to “Travel with Us to Find Your Shangri-La” in collaboration with Mika Ninagawa, one of Japan's photographers and film directors. Shangri-La will present Ninagawa’s personal version of Shangri-La to the public at the art fair, a fusion of her vibrant imagination and the fantastical travel experiences curated by Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong.

Brought to life by Ninagawa and Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong, the Shangri-La Lounge features an art installation themed on the idea of “Butterflies' Seasons”, which takes guests on a visual journey through the ever-changing seasons from the perspective of a butterfly seamlessly navigating guests through a blend of dreams and reality with Shangri-La.

The design features an enchanting display of flamboyant colours and floral elements, captivating guests with its blissful budding of life and blooming flowers. The butterfly is a symbol of the “butterfly effect” and embodies the infinite possibilities of diverse futures.

Alongside “Butterflies' Seasons”, Ninagawa’s signature mirror box display showcases breathtaking travel journeys that spark wanderlust and ignite the urge to travel with Shangri-La.

To celebrate Hong Kong’s flourishing art scene, a specially crafted “Art on the Plate” afternoon tea is available at Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong until 31 March, bringing to life Shangri-La’s perspective of art in a surprising dining experience. Created by the hotel’s executive chef Uwe Opocensky and executive pastry chef Julien Gourmelon, the tea set is a medley of artistic delights and a sensational feast for all the senses.
