Earlier this week, Selangor chief minister Amirudin Shari reportedly said that Selangor actively welcomes business ventures and opportunities from China.
He reportedly added that it is the responsibility of leaders in the government, industry or the community to ensure that young people in Malaysia and China are equipped with the tools and knowledge to succeed in today's world where technology is rapidly evolving.
The minister said this at the 14th Malaysia-China enterprise conference (MCEC) which was held on 17 October 2024, reported The Star. This is the fourth time the Selangor government has participated as the conference's strategic partner. The conference reportedly attracted approximately 800 participants too. Of which, 500 were from countries such as China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia.

In addition, the conference reportedly witnessed the exchange of seven memorandums of understanding (MoU) between Malaysian and Chinese companies, with a total value of RM1.148bil.
In a Facebook, post, Amirudin said that the long-standing partnership between Malaysia and China has been "instrumental in driving innovation and growth, particularly for SMEs in both nations."
"In today’s world, where global tensions seem to be rising, ASEAN continues to champion dialogue, respect, and cooperation as the path to peace and stability. I firmly believe that Malaysia and China’s collaboration will remain a beacon of hope for sustained growth and prosperity," said Amirudin.
In tandem, the minister added that Selangor is leading the way in embracing the industries of the future, from artificial intelligence to clean energy.
"With the launch of the IC Design Park and our strong focus on sustainability, we are positioning ourselves as a global hub for innovation. I invite local and international investors to explore the wealth of opportunities we offer. As we navigate the complexities of a multipolar world, let’s continue to strengthen the ties that bind us and work towards a future built on mutual respect, peace, and shared success," said Amirudin.
Meanwhile, Malaysia-China chamber of commerce president Loo Kok Seong reportedly said that the signed MoUs would create more professional job opportunities in Malaysia, attracting talent to stay and work locally.
Loo reportedly said that both nations have showed significant potential for collaborations in areas such as innovation, clean energy and infrastructure development.
Through the conference, Malaysian companies could partner with businesses from China and other countries to explore new opportunities in the digital economy and green transformation industry, Loo reportedly added.
However, in the AI sector, communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said in September this year that Malaysia can emulate China's technological and technical expertise.
In a statement, the minister said that the technology developed by China Media Group (CMG) seeks to improve the quality of broadcasting content by taking into account artificial intelligence (AI) which is increasingly widely used today.
China has also pioneered ultra-high definition 8K broadcasting, said Fahmi. The minister then expressed his excitement to see young people serving CMG in producing either AI or augmented reality (AR) content, as well as several new types of technology.
He added that Malaysia needs to see how organisations such as Bernama and RTM can take advantage of new technologies. Fahmi made these comments after visiting CMG's office in Beijing during his work visit to China.
