Strategic communications and public affairs consultancy, Sandpiper, has launched new AI services customised for communications and public affairs teams and practitioners.

The consultancy's director of strategy and innovation, Rob van Alphen, will be leading the new services. He was named director of strategy and innovation in October last year.

The advisory and training-based services cover a range of areas crucial to marketing, communications and public affairs roles and workflows. They include generative AI tool integration, prompt writing, policy development, and reputation management.

This comes shortly after the launch of the consultancy's global AI in Communications report released in March 2023. The report found that 86% view AI as an opportunity rather than a risk, with nearly nine in 10 predicting generative AI to become part of 'business as usual' within the next six months.

This study is based on a survey of over 400 communications and public affairs professionals across five continents.

Sandpiper's CEO Emma Smith said, “Few technologies have penetrated our work and lives as quickly or drastically as generative AI. With the pace of change accelerating exponentially, its impact will be immense."

"By embracing these emerging technologies and leveraging their capabilities, we can unlock room for growth in leadership, creativity, and strategic thinking," Smith added. She went on to share that Sandpiper's AI practice builds upon and leverages its industry experience in verticals such as financial services, healthcare and technology.

Alphen said that companies around the world are struggling to adapt to the accelerated pace of change even though AI is not new. The new services are designed to help bridge this gap.

"We support our clients with upskilling their teams and leadership, mapping AI’s potential for the organisation, as well as implementing priority use cases and putting in place the necessary policies. Since the launch of ChatGPT and Midjourney, we’ve noticed strong interest in training courses around its use cases and mastering the tools, but also growing pickup of our industry and trend reporting for teams to keep track of AI progress,” Alphen added.

MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out for more information.

Bolstering its tech practice across the APAC region, Sandpiper made new appointment earlier this year. The new leadership will see Mark Johnson leading Asia Pacific, Hetty Musfirah leading Southeast Asia, and Rong Li, leading Greater China. Each brings considerable experience spanning both strategic communications and public affairs in the technology sector as well as deep market insights.
