Reddit has brought on board Durgesh Kaushik as VP of APAC and emerging markets growth. In this newly established role, Kaushik (pictured) will set the strategy for responsibly growing communities, scaling user adoption, and identifying international expansion opportunities in emerging markets throughout the world.
Based in Singapore, Kaushik reports to Reddit’s VP of product management, Vaibhav Sahgal. According to his LinkedIn, he is Reddit's first employee in APAC.
He was most recently with Coinbase as senior director, market expansion - APAC, EMEA, and the Americas. He brings over a decade of experience leading growth efforts for companies across emerging markets, including at Snap, where he oversaw the platform’s expansion to India as the first employee in his role as MD, India and South Asia.
Kaushik has also worked at Dunzo, Wishfie, Facebook, and Jio. MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Reddit for additional information.
"I’m a long time redditor myself and I understand how important it is for people in all parts of the world to feel empowered to participate in meaningful discussions around the topics and interests that matter most to them," Kaushik said.
He also believes Reddit is unique in its ability to connect people via real communities and quality conversations that are not happening anywhere else online. "As our international user base continues to grow, I am excited to help build our presence in APAC and other emerging markets to optimise even more culturally relevant, local experiences for people around the world," he added.
Meanwhile, Sahgal said buiding out a meaningful global footprint is key to its internationalisation strategy and requires local context and perspective as it further grows its user base in emerging markets throughout the world.
"Kaushik brings a clear vision for Reddit’s growth outside of the US, and a proven track record for successfully scaling user bases across APAC and other emerging markets, and I’m thrilled to have him at the helm of our own local growth efforts," he added.
