The Hong Kong government has reappointed Peter Lam (pictured left) as chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) for a three-year term starting 1 April 2025, succeeding Pang Yiu-kai (pictured right).
The government has also named Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, Nikki Ng Mien-hua and Melissa Kaye Pang as new members of the HKTB for the term from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2027. At the same time, HKTB board member Lam Ho-yi is stepping down.
In his role as chairman of Lai Sun Group, Peter Lam currently serves as the chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and is a member of the advisory committee on attracting strategic enterprises, the chief executive's council of advisers, and the trade and industry advisory board.
Lam has been a member of HKTB since 2007 and served as chairman from 2013 to 2019. During his tenure, HKTB propagated a series of signature mega events, solidifying Hong Kong as “Asia’s World City”.
With his experience in the tourism and commercial sectors and extensive network, HKTB believes that Lam will bring a wealth of insights and build upon its achievements by exploring new source markets and visitor segments in tandem with the travel trade and various sectors, while developing more diversified tourism products to create business opportunities, inject impetus into the economy, and further strengthen Hong Kong’s international status as a world-class travel destination.
Commenting on the appointments, the secretary for culture, sports and tourism, Rosanna Law, said: "Lam who served as chairman of the HKTB before, possesses rich experience in promoting tourism development in Hong Kong. With his diverse experiences in business management and public services, along with a strong vision, Lam is the best candidate to lead the HKTB and the tourism sector of Hong Kong to reach new heights.”
“I am confident that under Lam's leadership, the board will advance further while promoting Hong Kong worldwide and showcasing its charms, so that visitors will indulge in pleasure when staying in Hong Kong, thinking about Hong Kong, and returning time and again. I also welcome Jeffrey Lam, Ng and Melissa Kaye Pang to join the board."
Law also thanked Pang for his contributions to the HKTB. "With Pang's foresight, seasoned business and management experiences, as well as an extensive business network, he has guided the HKTB with exemplary leadership in successfully overcoming various challenges during the pandemic and actively driving the recovery of Hong Kong tourism.”
Pang has served as HKTB chairman since April 2019. Over the course of his leadership, Hong Kong saw various challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. In such a critical era, Pang has led HKTB to join forces with the government, the Tourism Commission and the travel trade to roll out various promotional campaigns to maintain Hong Kong’s positive exposure around the world and encourage the local public to discover Hong Kong’s tourism appeal as the city’s own tourists through a series of campaigns and measures, which helped the travel trade and tourism-related sectors to keep their momentum and laid a solid foundation for a stable and orderly recovery of the industry.
As Hong Kong reopened its tourism doors in early 2023, Pang led HKTB to swiftly launch waves of global promotions to attract visitors to Hong Kong and drive the full-fledged development of tourism. Consequentially, Hong Kong received close to 45 million visitors in 2024, and has upheld its position as one of the most popular destinations for MICE, cruise and overall tourism, serving an important tourism gateway for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
“It has been my honour and privilege to serve our community as chairman of HKTB during these very challenging six years. I am very grateful to the government, the travel trade, my fellow HKTB members and the team for the support they have given me throughout the years. I will continue to work closely with HKTB team to promote ‘Hong Kong Super March’ and fully support the work of HKTB going forward. I wish HKTB and Lam every success,” Pang said.

The appointment comes alongside the government's upcoming initiatives to boost local tourism. Hong Kong's chief executive John Lee said yesterday that the city will kick off "Hong Kong Super March" (香港盛匯超級三月) next month, featuring a series of arts and culture events such as Art Basel, Art Central, ComplexCon, and a special exhibition of Pablo Picasso’s work at the M+ Museum. The mega events scheduled in Hong Kong for the first half of this year are expected to attract 840,000 tourists and generate HK$3.3 billion in consumption.
