Pantone has named "Mocha Mousse" (17-1230) as its colour of the year for 2025. The warming, brown hue was selected to spread a message of richness and it suggests the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, creating a feeling of comfort.
Pantone explained that the versatile shade creates a strong chromatic foundation, complementing diverse applications, both minimalist and richly decorated, across design and all colour conscious industries. Additionally, the company designed five colour palettes to showcase distinct feelings and moods.
Pantone also revealed its collaborations with various companies to bring Mocha Mousse to life, including electronics manufacturer Motorola and furniture company Joybird.

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the 2025 colour of the year "expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence".
"Sophisticated and lush, yet at the same time an unpretentious classic, PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse extends our perceptions of the browns from being humble and grounded to embrace aspirational and luxe," she said.
Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, added, "For Pantone Color of the Year 2025, we look to a mellow brown hue whose inherent richness and sensorial and comforting warmth extends further into our desire for comfort, and the indulgence of simple pleasures that we can gift and share with others."
Each year in December, Pantone unveils a colour as part of their "Colour of the Year" program, with an aim to engage the design community and colour enthusiasts in a conversation around colour. The program also highlights the relationship between colour and culture.
In 2024, Pantone named Peach Fuzz as the colour of the year. The gentle peach hue was selected to convey a message of compassion and empathy, particularly during tumultuous periods in our lives, said Pantone in a statement on its website.
Peach Fuzz also aimed to highlight the importance of fostering one’s inner self and finding moments of respite, creativity and human connection amid a world that emphasises productivity and external achievements.
