American outdoor wear company The North Face has revealed its second collaboration with artist KAWS to highlight the theme of perception and visibility.
Also known as The North Face XX KAWS, the new collection features the artist’s signature abstract patterns—continuing the theme of perception and visibility—with new, tonal color expression and texture through iconic styles from The North Face Expedition System.
The collection will drop exclusively at The North Face Hong Kong’s new concept store in New Town Plaza, Shatin, beginning 4pm on 26 October, before becoming available also at The North Face concept store in K11 Art Mall starting 29 October.
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to The North Face for additional information.
Based in Brooklyn, the artist KAWS is known for pushing the limits of the traditional concept of paintings, sculptures, and design, both physically and virtually. The second edition of The North Face XX KAWS collection reimagines The North Face’s technical and iconic styles, pushing the perspective of what they can be, according to the release.
Launched in 1990, the Expedition System was the most technically advanced integrated clothing system, built for unforgiving conditions and designed to enable exploration from the Himalayas to Antarctica. It was unrelentingly tested by some of the athletes in the world, and launched many of The North Face’s iconic styles, including Nuptse, Denali, Mountain Jacket and Himalayan Parka, all of which are featured in the latest collaboration.
Back in 2019, The North Face has partnered with National Geographic to introduce limited-edition Bottle Source collection crafted from single-use plastic sourced from waste streams. The team pulled approximately 384,000 pounds of plastic bottles from Yosemite, the Great Smoky Mountains, and Grand Teton in the United States to create t-shirts and hoodies.
The collection features slogan “WASTE IS OVER” as well as both brands’ names. According to both NatGeo and The North Face, the slogan is an aspiration for all to stop thinking of plastic as waste that should be tossed and to join in thinking of it as part of a cycle with other uses. For every Bottle Source product sold, a dollar will be donated to the National Park Foundation to support recycling and reuse programs.
