Ngong Ping 360 has joined hands with household classic Red A and local artist Raymond Lam to take Hongkongers on a trip that celebrates the rich heritage of Hong Kong this Christmas.
From 18 November 2024 through 1 January 2025, visitors are invited to take the limited-time nostalgia-themed cable cars, inspired by the retro decoration of traditional local cafés and herbal tea shops, to the Ngong Ping 360 x Red A Christmas Dream Factory in the Ngong Ping Village.
Targeting visitors from Southeast Asia and China, families, couples and Gen Z in Hong Kong, the factory features a giant Christmas tree, and a vintage Red A train and a vast array of mega Christmas installations with a Red A bearing. It also includes four classic booth games that bring back childhood memories, including dart throwing and curling grand challenge.
Visitors will also find Santa Claus with a Red A lampshade hat and Mr Snowman with a water bucket hat – both restfully seated in their own Red A water bucket. This Christmas wonderland promises to be a festive celebration enhanced by familiar cultural icons, with numerous Insta-spots for visitors to snap away at.
To celebrate Red A’s 75th anniversary, Ngong Ping 360 has also invited Lam, its managing director James Tung and Arts With the Disabled Association Hong Kong artist Jessica Chiu to collaborate on Christmas crafts that used recycled Red A items collected through the Ngong Ping 360 x Red A Recycle Programme.
Over 200 items will be showcased at the “Red A” Hong Kong Prestigious Collection special exhibition at Ngong Ping Village, produced by Red A over the past 75 years – including discontinued products and items that have never been publicly displayed – such as Red A briefcases, 360 round stools, rice buckets, and many more.
As a popular figure in the entertainment industry, Lam resonates well with the local community especially after the release of the movie “Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In”, said a spokesperson from Ngong Ping 360. "His presence can evoke a sense of nostalgia and familiarity to Hong Kong people, enhancing the campaign's emotional connection with audiences."
Lam is also seen as a versatile artist whose career spans music, television, and cinema across multiple regions, said the spokesperson. "His widespread recognition among diverse age groups and geographical locations, particularly in Hong Kong and Mainland China, makes him the perfect ambassador for this Christmas campaign. His influence will effectively engage families, couples, and younger audiences, maximizing the campaign's reach and impact."
Lam was also chosen to front a short film that recreates the classic and nostalgic Hong Kong dining culture alongside traditional craftsmanship. The film aims to evoke a strong sense of "Hong Kong flavour”. The campaign is done in partnership with creative agency Grandmother Digital Agency and PR agency The Bridge Agency.
In addition, familiar Hong Kong brands will arrive at Ngong Ping Village, including Chrisly Café and Bachelor Tea (herbal tea shop) and souvenir shop #HONGKONG, bringing visitors a truly Hong Kong experience.
The campaign will be amplified via multiple channels including online and offline mass media, such as printed newspapers, magazines, as well as websites and social media platforms. Influencers focusing on parenting, lifestyle and Gen Z trends will also be engaged.
Tung said, “Ngong Ping 360 is a prime attraction of Hong Kong, and Red A is a familiar household name. Through this creative mix-and-match collaboration between the two Hong Kong icons (Ngong Ping 360 and Red A), we hope to enhance the Ngong Ping 360 guest experience.”
Lam said, “Receiving the invitation from Ngong Ping 360 was truly exciting. Being named as one of the world's top ten cable car experiences, Ngong Ping 360 is a source of pride for Hong Kong. This Christmas installation, created in partnership with the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong using recycled Red A products, merges the memories of Hong Kong residents and Red A with iconic Hong Kong landmarks, creating a fresh and meaningful fusion. I am honoured to be part of the unveiling ceremony."
Reflecting on his memories with Ngong Ping 360, Lam shared, "In my childhood, the most memorable aspect of visiting Po Lin Monastery was the winding journey to reach it. Now, with Ngong Ping 360, we have a new experience, traveling to Lantau Island, where we can enjoy the breathtaking views of Hong Kong's unique scenery. It provides a tranquil escape amidst our bustling lives."
