A majority (70%) of member associations under the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC), have completed the process of changing their registered association names to include "Hong Kong, China".
According to the release, 58 member associations, out of a total of 83, have changed their registered association names to include "Hong Kong, China" as requested. The associations that have yet to make the changes are currently following up on the process, which is expected to complete within this year.
Hong Kong Football Association was also requested to include “China” in their official organisation names. Pui Kwan-kay, chairperson of the Hong Kong Football Association, told The Standard previously that despite the HKFA not being renamed since the handover of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong football team has been using the name “Hong Kong, China” at international competitions. He added that the renaming process is necessary and would soon call for a general meeting to initiate the process.
Back in 1997, the Amateur Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong adopted the name "The Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China". The International Olympic Committee subsequently confirmed the representation of Hong Kong, China Teams in international sports events.
