MTRC names new China business director as Adi Lau steps down

MTR Corporation (MTRC) has appointed Sammy Wong to be new Mainland China business director, which will be effective from 1 January 2023. Wong will succeed Adi Lau (pictured), managing director of Mainland China Business and global operations standards, who will be retiring from the Corporation on 31 December 2022.
After retiring, Lau will assist the Corporation to further reinforce and promote railway operations and maintenance standards by taking up the role of non-executive president of the Global Operations Standards Institute (GOSI) of the Corporation effective 16 January 2023.
Meanwhile, having joined the Corporation in 1995, Wong has taken on different positions within Hong Kong and in Mainland China and has a wealth of railway operations and management experience. He will be responsible for overseeing the Company’s business portfolios in Mainland China.
According to Wong's LinkedIn, Wong helmed the role of general manager of Shenzhen Line 4 between 2017 and 2019. Prior to this, he was head of operating for west region from 2015 to 2017.
Commenting on the new appointment, Jacob Kam, chief executive officer of MTRC, said: “In the past 40 years, Lau has made contributions to the railway development in Hong Kong in different positions. I sincerely thank him for his involvement and efforts. I also wish Wong every success in his new appointment.”

Previously in October, MTR Lab, a wholly owned subsidiary of MTR Corporation, has appointed Michael Chan as managing director with immediate effect.
