Mercedes Benz Malaysia has appointed Bettina Plangger as its new vice president as well as head of marketing and sales of Malaysia and Southeast Asia.

She commenced her duties on 17 April 2023.

Plangger started her career at Mercedes-Benz Group when it was called Daimler AG, in 2000, where she worked in product management. Before returning to Daimler, Plangger took on the role of market management, responsible for eastern European markets. This was gleaned from her LinkedIn.

In 2016, she was head of sales at Fleetboard, where she was responsible for 35 markets globally. Then in 2018, she took over Mercedes-Benz‘s owned retail in Augsburg and was instrumental in implementing the new retail brand concept at all customer touchpoints.

According to Mercedes-Benz, Plangger was instrumental in implementing the brand’s luxury strategy and led her team to top ranking positions in sales and customer satisfaction.

Plangger said that this is an opportune time for the Malaysian automotive industry which is undergoing dynamic progress. This is especially since the country is steering towards electric mobility. This rings true, as seen by the launch of Tesla EVs in Malaysia earlier this year. The Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) in Malaysia approved Tesla’s application to import Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) into the country.

This will see Tesla establishing a head office in Malaysia, introducing Tesla Experience Centres and Tesla Service Centres, and establish its Supercharger network. When the office will be established remains unclear.

“I’m excited and truly geared up in engaging with our leadership team locally and globally, aligning with our Ambition 2039 towards the future of mobility, in support of the sustainability and digitization of the Malaysian automotive market,” Plangger said, about her appointment,” she added.
