Petronas has released two films in commemoration of Kaamatan and Gawai Dayak, significant festive celebrations in East Malaysia. This was done in partnership with Mediabrands content studio.

Kaamatan, a form of the harvest festival, is celebrated annually in the state of Sabah, and lasts the whole month of May. Gawai Dayak is an annual festival celebrated by the Dayak people in Sarawak on 1 June 2023 as a thanksgiving to mark a bountiful harvest.

The executive creative director of MBCS, Ahmad Nazril Ibrahim said that conceptualising these festive films from East Malaysia provided an opportunity to learn and connect with cultures from across the country, each with a unique perspective of the world, nature and communities around them.

Additionally, “filming in remote parts of the country meant we had to contend without the trappings of the modern world at times, which truly allowed us to vibe with the cultural elements we were looking to embody in the films,” he added.

Mediabrands MY recently launched a few festive films in light of Hari Raya. One of them includes its partnership with local Malaysian clothing line that Bulan Bintang released. The film, titled “Raya Macam Star” (translated: celebrate Raya like a star), is a tale that aims to make everyone feel like a star when wearing the Bulan Bintang collection this Raya.

The star-studded cast consisted of some of Malaysia’s biggest celebrities such as Shukri Yahaya, Hannah Delisha, Sharnaaz Ahmad, Beto Kusyairy, Nadhir Nasar and Daiyan Trisha.
