MDEC under MACC investigation for reportedly making false claims

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is under investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for reportedly making false claims amounting to more than RM23 million. MDEC's spokesperson told A+M that its management and members of the board are fully aware of the situation but declined to comment on the case while investigations are still ongoing.
"MDEC does not tolerate any wrongdoings and will give its full cooperation to the Commission," it added.
Although Bernama previously reported that MACC made some arrests last month relating to false claims, it did not name the agency involved. Tech in Asia, however, recently said that MACC's investigations revolve around MDEC's sharing department, among other concerns.
According to Bernama previously, the investigations are said to involve two companies that have been paid claims of more than RM19 million. They were also paid over RM7 million to run training programmes from 2016 to 2020. A total of eight individuals have been arrested so far. The claims were made and approved even though no training was carried out, Tech in Asia said.
