McDonald's MY scores brand points on social with UNIQLO pop-ups

McDonald's Malaysia recently tied up with UNIQLO to perk up the experience of consumers while they shop in stores. As part of the collaboration, which runs until 3 July, McDonald's is offering the first 300 shoppers per day at any UNIQLO store nationwide a free cup of McCafé Iced Latte with every purchase.

Although the McCafé pop-up at UNIQLO's DA Square flagship store ended on 26 June, McDonald's is still handing out freshly-brewed coffee at the Fahrenheit88 UNIQLO flagship store until 3 July.

Melati Abdul Hai, VP, CMO of McDonald's Malaysia, told A+M that the brand is always looking to connect with both existing and new customers through memorable partnerships. "Staying true to McCafé’s brand proposition of Setiap Rasa, McCafé Ada, this one-of-a-kind collaboration with UNIQLO gives us the opportunity to stay fresh and relevant with McCafé’s target audience while they shop at UNIQLO," she added.

According to her, UNIQLO is a popular brand amongst Malaysians and McDonald's saw a way to bring two recognisable brands together to provide an unforgettable experience to our customers. "We hope that through this partnership, it will open up the McCafé experience to a wider audience. The successful sampling activation at UNIQLO’s DA Square flagship over the weekend was aimed precisely at that," Melati said.

From the activation itself, Melati said the collaboration has generated a great amount of buzz which fuelled the sharing mainly on social media platforms that are relevant to the brand's target audience. What was more exciting for the McDonald's team was that it saw high amounts of organic engagement through the social sharing of its brand content such as reels and postings as well as likes, shares and comments.

"We believe that this is the suitable strategy to be employed for McCafé, as we continually look forward to bring more of these exciting sampling collaborations to life, for more Malaysians to savour McCafé’s great tasting coffee and experience," she added.
