Communications service provider Maxis has promoted Hisham Omar to its new head of corporate communications, according to a LinkedIn update by Omar.

Omar joined the company as its media relations senior specialist in 2023.

"It's an honour to be given this opportunity after an exciting year in this fast-paced sector," said Omar on LinkedIn. "Looking back, I'm thankful for all the support and guidance from everyone along the way. Here's to the new chapter ahead."

Don't miss:

Prior to joining Maxis, Omar was the vice president, group corporate communications with CIMB. He handled PR, financial results, editorial, and executive communications for the team.

He joined CIMB in 2020 as its assistant vice president, group corporate communications.

Before he joined CIMB, Omar was with ValueCAP, joining the team in 2016 as its vice president of corporate communications.

He was promoted to vice president of group communications in 2018 and then to the role of vice president, marketing and commnications (VCAP asset managers) in 2019.

This comes shortly after Maxis released a new brand film in celebration of Merdeka Day.

The film aims to capture the essence of Merdeka and is inspired by a true story of a teenager named Aiman Ariffin, who stayed back after the Merdeka celebration to clean up the trash from the event, demonstrating his love for the country through a simple yet powerful act.

His passion for the country and selflessness caught the attention of Malaysians and was deemed commendable by multiple news stations. When A+M reached out, Wong Tse San, head of brand and marketing said Aiman's story was chosen as it showcased that love for the country can be shown in many new ways whether big or small and that the spirit of patriotism is still well and alive amongst the younger generation.
