Marrybrown has turned its iconic MB logo upside down to reflect WB (Women Boleh), in conjunction with International Women's Day (IWD). The theme for this year's IWD is #EachforEqual and calls upon everyone to create a gender equal world.

A spokesperson for Marrybrown told A+M that matters related to gender equality, diversity and breaking gender stereotypes are still issues that society is struggling with. With conversations surrounding gender being at the forefront of today's society, the spokesperson said Marrybrown believes this should play a major role in breaking gender norms.

According to the spokesperson, gender equality plays "a substantial role" at Marrybrown and everyone is treated with equal respect. "Marrybrown has always been committed to celebrating diversity among Malaysians as well as gender equality, which makes Marrybrown what it is today," the spokesperson added.

Meanwhile in a statement to A+M, senior marketing manager Lynn Low said the initiative has been on the back of the team's minds for quite some time. To Marrybrown, "gender equality" is just a word until it is in practice. As such, the team spent about a month brainstorming and crafting a suitable message for International Women's Day.

"Being a working mom in the corporate world is definitely a challenge as I continuously have to balance my family and career. The big challenge is to always keep my perspectives on the top of mind, in my conversations at the corporate level and among my family and friends so that I can easily shift my mindset," Low said when asked about the challenges of being a female leader.

She added that Nancy Liew, MD of Marrybrown, has been a perfect role model for her as she has inspired Low to lead the team by being open, supportive and collaborative. "Just like Liew, I try to lead my team by example and by influencing them to do their very best in all that they do – from the smallest task to the biggest. And should they ever need a friend, someone to talk to I am always there because I want them to know they are not alone," Low added.

This year's #EachforEqual theme theme was drawn from a notion of collective individualism, according to the IWD website. The theme aims to offer a unified direction to guide an galvanise continuous collective action, with #EachforEqual activity reinforced and amplified all year.
