Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil regards the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China a significant milestone to be celebrated.
The minister reportedly said that the establishment is an opportunity to enhance future cooperation and that it has borne considerable fruit over the past 50 years.
Speaking to reporters after attending a dinner commemorating the 50th anniversary, the minister reportedly added that the two nations can build together and ensure that the Southeast Asian region becomes more prosperous and peaceful.

In addition, he said the close relationship with China would positively impact the ASEAN alliance, according to Bernama.
During the dinner ceremony, the communications ministry exchanged two memorandums of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, Ouyang Yujing.
The exchange of documents was witnessed by the prime ministers of Malaysia and China, said Fahmi in a statement on X.
The first MoU is with the China Media Group on cooperation in the media field, while the second MoU is to strengthen cooperation in the postal filed between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the National Postal Bureau of China, added Fahmi.
China is not the only country Malaysia has ties with. Earlier in May this year, it was reported that Malaysia and the United Kingdom (UK) are collaborating to pave the way for potential advancements in the digital economy for both nations.
According to a post on Facebook as seen by A+M, digital minister Gobind Singh Deo said that the Malaysia-UK bilateral trade relationship is a critical impetus in advancing both nations' digital economy potential.
He added that the country's key foundations in accelerating Malaysia's growth, such as forward-looking national policies, ongoing digital-related legislation reforms such as passing the Cyber Security Bill 2024, and the presence of world-class digital infrastructure are already in place.
