Malaysia Airlines (MAB) has been named the official airline partner of the Malaysian Football League (MFL). The collaboration will see joint campaigns, branding, and events with Firefly, MASwings, MHholidays and Enrich.
According to Malaysia Aviation Group, the partnership signifies the commitment to create a sense of collective national identity and unity through the country’s number one sport. At the same time, MAB aims to provide safe and seamless air travel for the delegates competing in domestic professional tournaments under MFL, including Liga Super, Liga Premier, Piala Malaysia, Piala FA, and Piala Sumbangsih. Both parties will also team up to support MFL's activities such as local and international conferences, and football clinics. A+M has reached out to MAG for additional information regarding its joint campaigns and branding strategy.
MAG's CEO, Izham Ismail said: "I am certain that this symbiotic relationship between Malaysia Airlines and MFL will be a boon to football enthusiasts across the nation – uniting fans with their favourite teams, especially supporters from East Malaysia, who can now enjoy more matches held in the peninsular, and vice versa, through our seamless connectivity and increased flight frequency."
MFL's CEO, Stuart Ramalingam added that the partnership with MAB symbolises two brands – the national carrier and the nation’s biggest football association – coming together to elevate the standard of the Malaysian football scene to greater heights, in line with the national agenda.
MAB is active in Malaysia's sporting scene, partnering with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) last month, to unveil a special livery bearing the Harimau Malaya emblem on the airline’s Airbus 330-300 aircraft. According to MAB, the livery design signified the close collaboration and shared visions between two of the nation's brands. The partnership is said to end next year. Aside from unveiling a special livery design, Enrich, launched its "Harimau Malaya x Enrich 2022" card. The card was specially curated and designed with the Harimau Malaya emblem.
In July last year, Malaysia Airlines was appointed by the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) as its official airline partner for the Malaysian contingent to the XXXII Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. With the partnership, Malaysian Airlines was tasked with ferrying the officials and national contingent competing in 10 competitive sports at the Olympic Games. “As the national airline, we are honoured to be given the trust to fly our national contingent and go hand in hand to Fly Malaysia across the globe as the nation’s flag bearers through sporting events," said Izham. He added that the airline successfully transported the national football squad, Harimau Malaya, on their World Cup 2022 and Asia Cup 2023 qualifier in UAE and Bahrain.
Meanwhile, on the travel front, MAB has offered all-in return fares to Perth following the reopening of Australia's borders. The fares start from RM1,999 via the airlines’ Economy class and RM6,999 via its Business Class. The fares are bookable until 6 March 2022 and valid for immediate travel up to 31 July 2022. Starting April, the airline's frequency to Perth will be increased five times weekly and seven times weekly to Sydney.
Aside from Australia, MAB has also announced that it will be offering fares as low as RM109 and RM169 for trips between Penang to Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Users are able to enjoy these fare rates up to 10 April 2022, before its sister airline, Firefly resumes its jet operations from Penang International Airport on 11 April 2022. Additionally, direct flights from Johor Bahru to Langkawi are also going at RM59. A+M has reached out to MAB on its marketing strategies for its flight offers.
