Lazada Malaysia's Irene Foo steps down as branding and comms VP

Irene Foo, Lazada Malaysia's VP, head of branding and communications, is leaving the company after close to two years. She first joined in 2019 from Photobook Worldwide where she was VP of marketing. In a LinkedIn post, Foo said it has been an amazing 650 days at the company. "To be able to work with a group of talented and amazing colleagues, who are now friends, has been an experience that has made a mark in my career," she added.

She also said it has been an inspiration to be able to work with great leaders, one of them being CMO Diana Boo who she reported to. She added that the opportunity has given her insights on how she can continue to grow as a leader as well. "Thank you for the great memories and the great teamwork that led us to achieving results that surprises us as well," Foo added. A+M has reached out to Lazada for comment.

Foo was previously with Photobook for more than three years and before that, led marketing and business development for tour agency PYO Travel. She also had a separate stint with the company from 2009 to 2011 as marketing services manager, according to her LinkedIn. Before PYO Travel, she was the marketing director, Malaysia at LivingSocial, a daily deal company.

Earlier this year, the eCommerce brand was crowned "Marketer of the Year" at A+M's Marketing Excellence Awards 2020, bagging five gold and two silver trophies. Boo clinched the gold award for Marketing Innovator of the Year. Similarly, she is also officially stepping down from her CMO role on 4 June after two years. The company thanked Boo for her contributions, adding that it is in the midst of evaluating candidates for her replacement.

Separately on a group level, Lazada recently saw the departure of president Jessica Liu who also helmed the dual role of CEO of Lazada Thailand. She also led LazMall during her time with the company and under her leadership, Lazada's spokesperson said LazMall has grown to become one of the largest online virtual malls in Southeast Asia.
