Hong Kong-based on-demand delivery platform Lalamove has officially launched its first base in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, as part of its global expansion.
This comes as Lalamove sees Japan as a strategically important market, offering a stable economy and infrastructure, and a community that expects and deserves high-quality service, according to Gary Hui, head of driver operations for Lalamove.
In the Japanese market, Lalamove will continue to empower local businesses and delivery partners with fast, affordable and reliable delivery services.
As part of the initiative, Japanese small and medium-sized businesses will be able to save time and money and expand their operations efficiently through Lalamove's delivery services. Delivery targets range from small items to large furniture for individuals, and food and beverage, eCommerce, fashion/cosmetics, amongst others. The service will begin in Tokyo's 23 wards and will be expanded to other areas in due course.
Another important focus of Lalamove in Japan is the development of delivery partners. Under the initiative, Lalamove's delivery partners can adjust their working hours according to their desired schedule and workload and earn income.
They can also enjoy additional benefits such as referrals and early participation incentives. “We will support our valued partners to grow with the company, earn a living, and work flexibly while maximising their compensation,” said the release.
"We are thrilled to partner with Lalamove to bring our innovative, innovative solutions to the next generation of drivers," said Hui. “We are proud to have been part of the growth of many small and medium-sized enterprises around the world, and look to partner with many of them to expand their business in Tokyo."
"Our technology is digitally transforming the logistics industry through real-time GPS tracking, multi-location delivery, API integration and more, enabling faster and seamless deliveries, saving small and medium-sized enterprises time and money. Lalamove will provide a seamless delivery experience for both service users and delivery partners, and help alleviate the labor shortage in the logistics industry,” he added.

Back in June, Lalamove unveiled a regional branding campaign to honour and celebrate its driver partners' contributions. Also known as "Heroes behind the wheel", the campaign is launching across Lalamove's key markets in Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. The campaign will run until August and is being driven by Lalamove's in-house teams with support from local production agencies.
