KFC Malaysia has warned consumers of a fake "KFC Women's Day Survey" circulating on social media and messaging platforms, which claims to offer a free KFC Family Feast bucket. The company clarified that the survey is not associated with KFC Malaysia in any form. "Please do not respond to the promotion and share any personal information. Please refer to KFC Malaysia's official website and social media channels for the latest news and valid on-going promotions," the company added on Facebook.
Meanwhile, its spokesperson told A+M that scams such as these have been circulating on social media, online websites, and chat and messaging platforms, not only during International Women's Day. The fast food chain has a dedicated webpage to alert consumers of any scams making its rounds.
"We remind our customers to be cautious of any communication that offers attractive promotions that are not affiliated with KFC Malaysia, at all times," the spokesperson said. She also reminded consumers to not share any personal information and instead refer to KFC Malaysia's official website and social media channels for the latest news and ongoing promotions. When searching for social media accounts, the spokesperson also said consumers should look for the official page or account with a blue tick.
Other KFC scams include a KFC birthday/anniversary celebration that claims to offer 3,000 family barrels/snack buckets, a 8x/3x snack plate combo for only RM20 for 30 February 2020, and a promotional survey offering US$500 for individuals born in a specific month.
Separately, the brand appointed Chan May Ling as CMO last month, taking over from Angelina Villanueva who now helms a regional role at KFC Asia. Chan reports to brand head Chandrasagran Munusamy and leads the marketing team in continuously driving KFC's brand growth and driving its market leadership. According to her previously, Chan's vision is to accelerate digitalisation and make data-driven decisions to drive growth and leadership. Meanwhile, Villanueva is now marketing director at KFC Asia under franchisor Yum! Brands. She reports to CMO Annabel Fribence and oversees markets including Singapore and Malaysia.
The brand also took matters into its own hands after it was inspired by the Malaysian Road Transport Department, which opened up bids for car registration plates starting with "KFC". As a result, the fast food chain held its first-ever open bidding for its limited-edition KFC Original Plate, a literal one with the design "KFC 11" to showcase its 11 secret herbs and spices.
