As viewers eagerly anticipate the next instalment of Netflix's historical romance series, Bridgerton, restaurant chain Jollibee UK has trendjacked the series to commemorate its third season on the streaming platform. In a social media post, Jollibee’s bee mascot takes the place of Colin Bridgerton when he professes his love for Penelope Featherington. However, instead of the kiss they shared, Jollibee’s mascot has crispy fried chicken on his mind.

“I have not been able to sleep, not been able to eat. I can barely speak these days. My entire thoughts consumed by…by Spicy Chickenjoy. By planning my next Jollibee trip,” said Jollibee UK in the post. The post also shared a picture of Jollibee’s bee mascot accompanying Colin Bridgerton’s sister, Daphne Bridgerton at a ball.

From a collaboration with Bath and Bodyworks and a trendjack by Singapore's Housing Development Board (HDB) that posted a letter Lady Whistledown-style, Bridgerton has truly swept consumers and brands off their feet with its captivating romances.

In a time in which marketers are faced with many challenges with multiple platforms and fleeting consumers, making relevant content such as trendjacked posts becomes all the more critical.  To stay ahead of the curve, marketers must be culturally savvy, keep their fingers on the pulse, dive deep into social conversations, listen carefully, ideate and evolve their communications on the fly.

However, trendjacking is also an art and a careful balancing act. Brands need to understand that there are multiple trends happening simultaneously and that it needs to pick and choose carefully, act fast, and move on to the next quickly.
