Hong Kong will continue to introduce a new series of activities under its ‘Night Vibes Hong Kong’ campaign to boost social development upon receiving positive feedback, said the city's leader John Lee.

During a media session before the regular executive council meeting on Tuesday, Lee said that some vendors and participating companies have seen significant business growth thanks to the campaign, reflecting the success of the whole initiative which the government “launched from scratch”. As such, Lee said the activities "will definitely continue".

The government also hopes to add more interesting events and content to the campaign and will launch more events during the upcoming holiday season such as Christmas and the Chinese New Year, as well as after these festive seasons to hype up the social sentiment.

Lee added that the "Night Vibes" campaign alongside other measures are platforms to encourage different sectors to "take action". Therefore, all participants, regardless of sector, are playing a key role in Hong Kong’s development.

"As Hong Kong is competing with other cities, we must demonstrate Hongkongers’ vitality, wisdom, creativity and self-confidence, so that we can show off Hong Kong’s attractiveness in the fierce game of competition," he said.

As such, he said businesses should enhance their attractiveness and diversity, and produce more theme-based content so that Hongkongers and tourists alike can immerse themselves in the events.

“We need everyone to work with the government to show to the world our resilience, endurance, vitality, and our traditions, in order to make Hong Kong successful, a Hong Kong where tourists feel welcomed," he added,"Our society shall establish Hong Kong into a diverse international city where people all around the world would find great experiences here.”

Back in September, the government revealed the details and upcoming promotional activities as part of the “Night Vibes Hong Kong” campaign, including free MTR rides after 10.30 pm, late-night movie discounts and a free Wednesday night at Happy Valley Racecourse for the public.

In fact, this has stirred up conversations among HongKongers and the marketing industry as to whether these activities can open up residents’ wallets.

According to media intelligence firm CARMA, the campaign saw over 4,500 mentions across various media platforms from 15 September until 18 September. Of the coverage, 23.9% of mentions were positive, while 11.4% were negative.
