Meta has collaborated with Hong Kong Design Centre to launch "Instagram Academy 2022", a training programme to help Hong Kong’s young designers and brand entrepreneurs grow by empowering them with digital skills, tools and knowledge.

The programme will recruit around 100 local young designers to undergo the first phase of the training programme from February to May. A total of seven online lectures will teach participants various Instagram tools and skills, including free Instagram business and creativity tools; hands-on workshops on how to curate Instagram content, engage the audience and drive sales; as well as How to use Instagram tools for business, and create strategy to bring business worldwide.

Meta said through a series of training workshops and consultation sessions, the programme will nurture and empower high-potential young designers and brand entrepreneurs to make the best use of Instagram to expand their businesses to the rest of the world.

“Instagram Academy 2022” is the first event of “Hong Kong Instagram Month". In the coming weeks, Instagram will announce a series of products to promote online safety and spark creativity for video production.

“Instagram has transformed how people discover local businesses, shop online, choose and experience travel destinations, and share memories with their communities. As a visually rich platform, it enables brands to tell their stories through photos and videos with ease," said Jayne Leung, vice president, head of Greater China at Meta.

She added that today, Instagram has more than one billion monthly active users, of which 90% follows at least one business. A recent survey also revealed that more than half of the respondents shop on Instagram. "I’m delighted about the partnership between Meta and Hong Kong Design Centre, and I look forward to empowering Hong Kong’s design entrepreneurs with essential digital skills that can help them grow their businesses in today’s digital world,” Leung said.

Bernard Chan, Hong Kong's under Secretary for commerce and economic development, said a brand’s ability to make the best use of social media, particularly marketing tools on the platform, is crucial to raising brand awareness and generating customer demands.
He added that the programme’s return this year will empower local designers to promote their brands through social media, and help boost Hong Kong’s position as a top-notch Asian city for design and creativity.

"Our strong collaborations with international partners have continuously strengthened Hong Kong’s role as one of the key design business hubs in the region. I believe that ‘Instagram Academy 2022’ will propel Hong Kong’s outstanding designers forward and create an extraordinary, innovative realm in the local design industry," said Eric Yim, chairman of Hong Kong Design Centre.
