Telecommunications firm Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat) and Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia's national carrier, have formed a strategic partnership as it aims to harness latest technological innovations to transform, as well as accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s aviation and tourism sectors.

It is also supported by the ministry of tourism and creative economy of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenparekraf RI).

The two institutions signed the collaboration commitment at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison’s headquarters in Jakarta. It was signed by Vikram Sinha, president director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, and Irfan Setiaputra, president and CEO of Garuda Indonesia, witnessed by representatives from Kemenparekraf RI and Sandeep Chakravorty, the Indian ambassador to Indonesia.

As a full-service airline, Garuda will explore the application of these technologies to enhance operations, optimise revenue and personalise passenger experiences. The innovations are expected to enhance the optimisation of flight services through digitalisation across various operational touchpoints. Additionally, new technology will continuously be developed to offer seamless travel planning for passengers.

"Sharing the same mission with Indosat to deliver a seamless travel experience for tourists, we hope that this exploration of a collaboration will support the digital transformation of the tourism and aviation industries. For over seven decades, we have been at the forefront of providing safe and comfortable air transportation for the public. This collaboration is expected to further stimulate the growth and development of Indonesia's aviation and tourism industries,” added Setiaputra.

This move is also expected to position Indosat as a pioneer in integrating advanced technology within the industry.

“Armed with the latest technological innovations developed by Indosat, we are committed to supporting the growth of every industry sector. We appreciate the support of the Indonesian government in our shared vision to enhance Indonesia’s global reputation," said Sinha, president director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.

This strategic partnership is crucial for leveraging technology to transform Indonesia’s aviation and tourism sectors, improving experiences, and fostering inclusive growth. This aligns with Indosat's larger purpose of empowering every Indonesian,” Sinha added.

Moreover, the collaboration also supports Kemenparekraf’s efforts to boost Indonesian tourism. The support includes research to bolster the tourism sector with development of technological talent, especially among women, in the five priority tourist destinations.

"This partnership marks a significant moment for Indonesia’s aviation and tourism sectors. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, Indonesia will not only elevate the tourist experience but also create new economic opportunities that will drive sustainable growth. This collaboration sets a global standard for technology integration in aviation and tourism, positioning Indonesia as a premier destination on the world stage,” said Sandiaga Uno, minister of tourism and creative economy of the Republic of Indonesia.

Ultimately, the collaboration aims to drive digital transformation in service quality within the aviation and tourism sectors through the use of cutting-edge technology.
