Indonesia minister of youth and sports Dito Ariotedjo has reportedly said that Indonesia is ready to host several international championships in 2025.

The minister reportedly said that these events will include the World Surf League, the World Rally Championship, the World Abilitysport Games, the Gymnastics World Championship and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), according to Antara

The world championships that Indonesia routinely have, such as MotoGP in Mandalike, Aquabike and Power Boat in Toba Lake, and the next year's MXGP will also continue to be held, Ariotedjo reportedly said.

The minister reportedly added that the 2025 World Surf League will be held at seven locations, including Bali and West Nusa Tenggara, and that the World Gymnastics Championships will be held in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the World Rally Championship will be held in North Sumatra, he reportedly added.

Ariotedjo reportedly also said that the UFC is being planned to debut in Indonesia in 2025. He said that UFC organisers have been visiting Indonesia since the end of 2023.

He added that Indonesia is also ready is host the 2025 World Abilitysport Games, similar to the Paralympics which will reportedly be attended by representatives from various countries.

At the same time, the minister of tourism and creative economy Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno reportedly said that when international sports events are held in Indonesia in 2025, it must be geared towards bolstering the country's economy. He reportedly added that the estimated budget needed to organise these international events in Indonesia next year is Rp500 billion to Rp1 trillion

Hosting international sports may be one of the ways Indonesia hopes to boost tourism. In April this year, Indonesia was reportedly hoping to enhance economic, trade and tourism programmes with Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

This comes with the introduction of a 'special privilege scheme', which offers discounts to residents in bordering regions.

The Indonesian consul-general in Johor, Sigit Suryantoro Widiyanto, reportedly said that this would involve at least 10 Indonesian districts in the Riau Islands such as Batam, Bengkalis and Tanjung Pinang.
