IKEA Hong Kong has trendjacked the recent coin-tossing game fraud allegations against the arcade chain Jumpin Gym USA, after a customer complained to the police that it was impossible to win the game.
According to its official post on Instagram, IKEA Hong Kong promotes its newly launched rainbow door mat with a caption that reads, “Look at how wide my green band is! It seems like there’s a chance not to touch the boundary? However, it is recommended for you to bring a coin and measure it carefully first.”
The post has garnered over 45k likes and 290 comments, with many commenting that IKEA Hong Kong’s trendjacking post was very efficient and that the incident just happened within the same day, a check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw. Meanwhile, some said they would like to buy one rainbow doormat from IKEA and play the coin-pitching games at home.
While on Facebook, IKEA's post has received over 24k likes, 901 comments and 1.1k shares.

This came after a customer at a local Jumpin Gym store alleged on 7 October that the design of the Happy Rainbow coin-toss game made it impossible to win.
The customer said on Facebook page 美國冒險樂園關注組 last Saturday that he spent 2,000 tokens on the game, and a coin successfully landed in the green section of the rainbow, but a member of staff claimed it was "touching the boundary".
The customer then reported the case to the police and the Hong Kong customs complaining that it was impossible to win the game as the two sides of the rainbow arch had a narrowing width, which was smaller than the coin’s diameter.
In response, Jumpin Gym USA emphasised that the average width of each session of the Lucky Rainbow is greater than the token, and there has been no situation where the token is greater than a rainbow stripe, according to HK01. It said that it deeply regretted the false accusations made by the public.
The customs told local media such as SCMP on Monday that it had received a report from the complainant, adding that it would look into every case individually based on the situation and related evidence. “The Customs and Excise Department will carry out investigations and take legal action if the company is found to be violating the Trade Descriptions Ordinance."
MARKETING-INTERACTIVE has reached out to Jumpin Gym USA and the customs for a statement.
In fact, IKEA Hong Kong is known for its efficiency and wit to trendjack certain social incidents. Back in June, Hong Kong Legislative Councillor Priscilla Leung mistakenly pronounced the Chinese word 主席 (president) into 主人(master) when she was delivering her speech at a Legislative Council meeting.
While this raised discussions among netizens, IKEA Hong Kong posted a post on its Instagram with its dog soft toy and a large caption of 主人. The post has garnered over 57k likes and 329 comments on Instagram, a check by MARKETING-INTERACTIVE saw.
Back in March, IKEA Hong Kong also trendjacked the 2022 comedic adventure film Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven Oscars at the 95th Academy Awards in the US, including Best Picture. According to its official Facebook post, Ikea Hong Kong said since a lot of people are discussing the movie, the editors from IKEA Hong Kong were also joining the conversation. “Let’s see if we add the little eyes on these 'New lower price' items, will it generate higher sales!” the post read.
