ID minister proposes using tourism fund for sports and music events

Tourism and creative economy minister Sandiaga S Uno have reportedly proposed to use the Indonesia Quality Tourism Fund (IQTF) for various events such as sports events and music festivals.

The IQTF is reportedly worth IDR2 trillion (around SG$165 million).

Speaking at the 'Road to Run for Independence Day 2024' held at Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex on Sunday, Sandiaga said that the specific events will be decided by the president-elect and vice president-elect for 2024 to 2029, according to Antara.

He reportedly added that sports events such as the Moto GP, F1 Powerboat, Aquabike World Championship, World Surf League and music events such as the Java Jazz Festival were proposed.

At the same time, the endowment fund will reportedly be used to finance various events that focus on quality and sustainable tourism in the country. It will also be managed by a business service agency of the Ministry of Finance.

Sandiago reportedly said that the process of creating the presidential regulation draft on the tourism endowment fund is projected to be completed in August 2024.

The fund will be sourced from the 2025 State Budget and will be included in the 2025 Draft State Budget, reported Antara News.

In tandem, the minister reportedly said that the tourism fund was still being studied and that several options for collecting funds and determining the amount were being considered.

He reportedly added that the endowment fund will also be used to promote national branding for national-level and international-level events in the country.

Last week, Indonesia minister of youth and sports Dito Ariotedjo reportedly said that Indonesia is ready to host several international championships in 2025.

Ariotedjo reportedly said that these events will include the World Surf League, the World Rally Championship, the World Abilitysport Games, the Gymnastics World Championship and the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), according to Antara.

In addition, Ariotedjo reportedly added that the 2025 World Surf League will be held at seven locations, including Bali and West Nusa Tenggara, and that the World Gymnastics Championships will be held in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the World Rally Championship will be held in North Sumatra, he reportedly added.
