HSBC's eWallet PayMe has launched a new group Lai See feature for Chinese New Year and has rolled out a campaign afterwards to celebrate the new function. The campaign features several popular celebrities in town, including MIRROR's Keung To, singer Ivana Wong, girl group COLLAR's Marf Yau and Day Hui, in addition to influencer Ray Chan (雞丁). The ongoing campaign includes a video showcasing each celebrity competing with each other to grab the most Lai See. Before the end of the video, Keung To advises users how to win a cash prize.
"I like bustling places and has been a fan of Hong Kong CNY movies since childhood. I particularly like scenes about the hustle and bustle of family gatherings as they are full of festive vibes. The production of the video reminds of that of CNY movies. Although I kept running during the filming process, the shooting process was fun!" said Keung.
The video debuted on ViuTv on 24 January. It will be also be aired on Hong Kong Open TV. From 28 January to 15 February, HSBC will feature five characters on the exterior of HSBC Main Building in Central. All of them will offer new year greetings to Hongkongers.
The group Lai See feature allows PayMe users to send electronic Lai See with customised blessings to up to 100 recipients at a time. Users can choose to send designated recipients a Lai See directly, or create a shareable link for recipients to collect the money. The link to receive Lai See can be shared via social messaging apps too.
"Leveraging our unparalleled understanding of how the locals prefer to pay, we are excited to launch yet another innovative feature to provide users with an intuitive payment experience and a fun and eco-friendly way to celebrate Chinese New Year," said Dharini Kannan Hemant, head of PayMe, HSBC.
HSBC has also added fun elements. Users are allowed to send Lai See containing a fixed or random amount for each recipient with a group. Each group Lai See will be subject to a limit of HK$200 when a user chooses to send a fixed amount. For users creating a shareable link, they can send a total amount of up to HK$10,000 each time. From 18 January to 15 February, PayMe users who send a group Lai See that is collected by at least five recipients will receive a voucher worth HK$28.
“With a history of more than 155 years in Hong Kong, HSBC has always been at the forefront of reinventing financial services to keep up with the times. As we approach Chinese New Year, a festival for family and friends to reconnect and interact, we are pleased to be part of the enduring Chinese tradition by introducing the new Group Lai See function on PayMe for more than 2.5 million users. They can give out Lai See and blessings to each other instantly and remotely," said Maggie Ng, head of wealth and personal banking, Hong Kong, HSBC.
