Following the launch of the HSBC Fraud Fair in 2023, HSBC Hong Kong has unveiled a large-scale public fraud prevention education exhibition named “Fraud University” (防騙學府 – 呃大).

Taking place from 25 January to 16 February at K11 MUSEA in Tsim Sha Tsui, the “Fraud University” will offer interactive experiences designed to educate the public on how to avoid falling victim to scams. The initiative aims to promote cybersecurity awareness and strengthen the financial security of individuals and businesses.

The "Fraud university" has received support from the Hong Kong Monetary Authority to create an immersive university campus experience for "students," aimed at enhancing their scam prevention skills. The campus features a range of facilities, including various interactive exhibits that cover elements from everyday life to the business world, imparting scam prevention knowledge from different angles.

The "Fraud University" features experts from HSBC and global tech companies such as Google Hong Kong, LinkedIn, and Meta. They will collaborate to conduct workshops that instruct "students" on how to analyse and break down social media and online scam tactics.

As part of the campaign, HSBC has released a video inviting the public to join "Fraud University" and become experts in fraud prevention, learning how to see through scams and avoid being scammed. The video also highlights the various departments that engagingly present the tactics of scammers.

To enhance public engagement, HSBC held an "enrollment information day" for the "Fraud University" from 7 to 9 January. During this event, staff distributed "Fraud University" calendar cards at its Aberdeen, Hung Hom, and Tuen Mun branches.

Back in November 2023, HSBC launched a bank-led fraud (呃) fair, a three-week art exhibition aimed at promoting public awareness of fraud prevention. Taking place at Airside, the fraud fair played on the Chinese word “呃” (fraud), which sounds like the English word “art”.

In partnership with creative agency Hungry Digital and PR agency Hill & Knowlton, the fraud fair showcased over 20 physical and interactive artworks that highlighted common fraud tactics through the use of vernacular language and derivative art techniques. The exhibition saw over 25,000 visitors, according to HSBC.
