HKTB reportedly banks on Louis Koo to promote hospitality culture

Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will reportedly launch a three-phase hospitality campaign to promote Hong Kong’s hospitality culture, featuring local stars such as Louis Koo (古天樂)and Stephy Tang (鄧麗欣).

According to multiple media reports such as HK01, Ming Pao, and SCMP, the campaign, themed “Let’s go the extra mile” (做多一步 好客之道) will cover F&B, retail and transport sectors. It will include a new TV promotion that casts Koo, Tang, as well as actors Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), Kevin Chu (朱鑑然), Tony Wu (胡子彤), Hins Ng (吳肇軒), Hazel Lam (林熙彤) and Hillary Lau (劉沛蘅).

The actors will portray various characters in common service scenarios, such as cha chaan teng waiters and diners, sneaker salesman and clients, and taxi drivers and passengers. The video aims to show how Hongkongers can better demonstrate the spirit of hospitality by going the extra mile with small gestures.

According to the reports, in the first video, Koo and Tang order at a cha chaan teng (茶餐廳), each requesting a different sweetness level for their lemon tea. The beverage attendant carefully adjusts the syrup, while the waiter proactively assists them. Meanwhile, the second video and the third video feature a shoe store salesman and a taxi driver both providing polite, attentive service.

A teaser video for the campaign is released across HKTB's social media channels such as YouTube and Instagram. The video features Hsuan, Chu, Ng, Wu, Lam, and Lau playfully reinterpreting the classic catchphrase "Today's service attitude is not enough!" (今時今日咁嘅服務態度係唔夠嘅!) from a previous HKTB TVC starring Andy Lau in 2002, aiming to trigger thoughts about how to better demonstrate the hospitality spirit.

The teaser concludes by hinting that a special celebrity guest will also appear in the full campaign video.

The teaser video has garnered over 100k views on YouTube and more than 4,300 likes with 60 shares on Instagram. While some netizens have speculated that the mysterious figure could be Louis Koo, some said they look forward to the release of the full campaign video.

According to the reports, the HKTB felt the previous campaign campaign featuring Andy Lau had become outdated and overly preachy. Recognising Hong Kong's culture differs from overtly friendly places, with a cool exterior masking underlying warmth, the HKTB selected Koo to align with the "cool on the outside, warm on the inside" Hong Kong persona.

Don’t miss: HKTB expands ‘Hong Kong Pals’ programme to promote hospitality culture

In fact, the HKTB is promoting in phase the hospitality culture targeting the trade, the community, and the public, to enhance visitors’ experience in Hong Kong. Back in April, the HKTB expanded the “Hong Kong Pals” volunteer programme to recruit more people with a passion for tourism to become hosts for visitors.

To imbue new youthful energy into the programme, the HKTB hosted briefings in different universities and tertiary education institutes to introduce the Hong Kong Pals programme and the details to students of tourism and hospitality.
