HKJC celebrates 140 years with community-centric campaign

In celebration of its 140th anniversary, the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has launched a campaign to highlight its continuing partnership with Hongkongers.

Centred around the theme “With you. Then. Now. Always.” (與你並肩.昨天.今天.每一天), the campaign aims to celebrate HKJC’s shared history while expressing optimism about the city's future.

HKJC’s partnership with the community has continued to grow since its founding in 1884, according to the release. The club has adopted an integrated business model, where racing and wagering generate tax contributions, charity support, and employment opportunities for Hong Kong.

As part of the campaign, HKJC will hold two Mark Six snowball draws, each featuring an estimated first-division prize fund of around HK$70 million. The draws are scheduled for 22 and 28 October respectively.

HKJC will also host the 140th-anniversary race day at Sha Tin Racecourse (香港賽馬會140週年賽馬日) this Sunday (20 October), featuring two HK$8 million triple trio jackpots, along with another race day on 27 October. An open day is also scheduled at the Jockey Club Tuen Mun Public Riding School (馬會屯門公眾騎術學校) on 10 November, along with two exhibitions set to begin in November and January, respectively.

To enhance public engagement, HKJC has launched a dedicated campaign website highlighting the club’s major milestones over the past 140 years. It features stories outlining the club’s development together with Hong Kong, as well as stories spotlighting the people who are making a difference.

An avatar game is also introduced to engage with consumers, where they can create a personalised card with their very own AI-generated avatar, to thank someone who’s made good possible.

Michael Lee, club chairman, HKJC, said: “The club’s 140th anniversary is not just about a date or a year. It is about the community and the people that drive Hong Kong forward. It is about how we have grown together and how we are connected. We cherish the community’s resilience, diversity, and unwavering spirit. It is this spirit that is the foundation of our optimism about Hong Kong’s future.”

Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, club CEO, HKJC, said: “From a small racing club founded in 1884, we have grown into a world-class racing organisation. Uniquely, we also contribute very substantially to the betterment of society. We want to thank the community which has made all the good we do possible and brought people together. We want to show the club’s appreciation for Hong Kong and to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our fellow citizens."
