Hong Kong will regularly invite mainland influencers to the city to promote Temple Street through livestreaming, aiming to double visitor numbers in the coming year.
This comes after Yau Ma Tei Temple Street Association of Hawkers and Shop Operators (油麻地廟街販商商會) and Dongmen Chamber of Commerce in Shenzhen (東門商會) signed a cooperation agreement to establish a cross-border link between Temple Street in Hong Kong and Dongmen Pedestrian Street in Shenzhen, the two popular shopping destinations.
The partnership between the commercial pedestrian streets in Hong Kong and Shenzhen is the first of its kind nationally, according to the Yau Tsim Mong Federation of Association.
As part of the agreement, the two parties will regularly invite online celebrities from Dongmen to travel to Hong Kong and promote Temple Street. It aims to showcase Hong Kong's cultural characteristics to a wider audience and thereby attract more tourists to visit the city and spend money. The cooperation is expected to result in a doubling of visitor numbers to Temple Street over the next year.
On 20 July, the organisers invited mainland influencers 岩章扁 and 麻日灿, as well as local celebrities Mary Hon (韓馬利), Wong Wan Choi (黃韻材), and Kitty Lau (劉桂芳), to visit Temple Street and conduct a live stream, promoting the unique characteristics of the Temple Street exchange the featured cultures of the two places.
The organisers said they will continue promoting more collaborations of this nature, further advancing the "Tourism is anywhere in Hong Kong" (香港無處不旅遊) concept. They believe that the partnership can deepen the cultural and tourism exchange between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, draw more visitor numbers to the Yau Tsim Mong district, and boost the local economy.

The Temple Street area is being actively incorporated into various tourism promotion initiatives. Back in April, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) launched the second phase of its Temple Street promotion, as well as extending the operation period of the promotion until December this year. This aims to revitalise the retail section of Temple Street and attract more visitors to the street.
Tapping into the lively ambience of Temple Street, HKTB invited local singer Wan Kwong, who is also known as the grassroot pop song legend (廟街歌王), to remake the music video of one of his signature songs I Love Temple Street to promote the charm of the night market.
