Hong Kong has launched a new set of TV Announcements in the Public Interest (APIs) to appeal to talent across professions on the mainland and overseas to settle in the city.

A spokesman for Hong Kong Talent Engage (HKTE) said that the new APIs feature the city's vibrant and colourful lifestyle, followed by nine arriving talents of different professions and backgrounds from around the world to share their reasons why they came to Hong Kong.

In the first episode of the APIs launched today, former National Basketball Association (NBA) of the United States and Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) player Stephon Marbury said that Hong Kong, as an international cultural melting pot, is a "slam dunk" for new opportunities without language barriers. Hong Kong is also a gourmet paradise which features culinary delights from all over the globe, he said.

"Thank you, Hong Kong, for putting me in the forefront to help more people globally know about HK. Hong Kong, being the financial sector for the world along with its rich culture and amazing food, positions Hong Kong as a place to visit and live. Love is love," said Marbury on HKTE's Instagram post.

The upcoming API episodes will be broadcast in phases, featuring Hong Kong’s unique strengths, advantages and development opportunities and showcasing its dual role as an international talent hub and the country’s gateway for talent, according to the release.

The series will be broadcast in Hong Kong and beyond through dedicated teams to attract businesses and talents under the government’s mainland offices and overseas economic and trade offices.

The global talents featured in the APIs settle in Hong Kong through the top talent pass scheme (TTPS) launched in December 2022.

Back in March, over half of the 40,000 people who moved to Hong Kong through the TTPS found jobs, according to the city's labour minister Chris Sun. Sun said that the talent scheme, implemented for over a year since December 2022, has received around 70,000 applications, with 55,000 of them approved.
