Mastercard has promoted its country manager of Hong Kong and Macau Helena Chen (pictured) to the role of senior vice president, general manager, Hong Kong and Macau, effective 1 March 2025. She will report to Dennis Chang, executive vice president and division president, Greater China, Mastercard.

In her expanded role, Chen will continue to oversee business development and day-to-day operations across Hong Kong and Macau with a focus on growing Mastercard’s market presence and exploring new opportunities in the digital economy. With Hong Kong's status as a global financial centre and both markets' strong tourism sectors, Chen's leadership is crucial to Mastercard's continued success in Greater China and the Asia region.

With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, Chen specialises in transaction banking, consumer, and commercial payment. She champions opportunities and community for women in finance and local women entrepreneurs, while leading educational initiatives to prepare local students for careers in finance.

Chen joined Mastercard in 2016 as head of commercial sales and had helmed various senior roles within the firm over the past decade. Chen's strategic vision and innovative approach have driven Mastercard’s growth, establishing it as a market leader in Hong Kong and Macau. Over the past decade, she has steered Mastercard’s operations in both territories, focusing on empowering local enterprises and stimulating economic recovery. By forging strategic partnerships with homegrown businesses, Chen has created new opportunities that energise the local market.

With a deep understanding of customer needs, she has also led the team in collaboration with issuers to launch targeted card products, including World Elite cards for ultra-high-net-worth customers and multi-currency debit cards for Hong Kong’s savvy travellers.

Prior to Mastercard, she was the executive director, head of local corporates and international corporates, transaction banking at Standard Chartered Hong Kong.

Dennis Chang, executive vice president and division president, Greater China, Mastercard, said: “In Chen, Mastercard is privileged to have a capable, visionary leader at the helm of two pivotal markets, which will enhance synergy across Greater China. We look forward to the next phase of her leadership, as she drives growth for Mastercard and revitalise the economies of Hong Kong and Macau.”

Back in October 2024, Mastercard committed to driving inclusion for persons with disabilities (PwD) with a new awareness campaign to spotlight autism acceptance in Singapore.

Launched in partnership with Hidden Disabilities Sunflower (HDS), St. Andrew’s Autism Centre, HSBC, and Frasers Property Singapore, the #AcceptanceMatters campaign aims to raise awareness of autism by emphasising real-life stories of persons with autism, addressing the existing gap in empathy and understanding to drive acceptance and foster a more supportive community.
