Harbour City and Chow Yun Fat team up to launch charity photography exhibition

Harbour City and Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat have partnered up to launch a charity photography exhibition that captures daily moments from the early mornings of the city.
This comes as Chow, in addition to regularly exercising in Central in the mornings, has a passion for photography that drives him to wake even earlier to explore the city at dawn with his camera. He enjoys walking the streets at 7am to capture a side of Hong Kong that differs from its daytime or nighttime atmosphere, according to the release.
Also known as “Hong Kong‧Morning” (香港‧晨), the exhibition will be held from 18 December 2024 to 2 January 2025 at the main concourse of Ocean Terminal, Harbour City. It will feature a total of 30 photographs, all captured by Chow.
One of the key artworks of the exhibition is a photograph of Victoria Harbour taken during a black rainstorm. From the Ocean Terminal rooftop carpark, he saw the sky was overcast in darkness, and coincidentally, three brightly-colored Star Ferries were nearby the pier, creating a vivid contrast against the moody backdrop. “I find it so special and rare to have such opportunity to capture the scene – and that’s what photography is about," said Chow.
In addition to the key artwork, the exhibition is divided into three zones named “Hong” (香), “Kong” (港), and “Morning” (晨). The zone “Hong” is about flower photography, such as budding red buttercup and blooming yellow daisy, presented in a dreamy, painterly style with shallow DOF.
Meanwhile, the zone “Kong” showcases the vibrant early mornings in Central, featuring well-dressed ladies, diligent cleaners, and huddles of office workers. The zone “Morning” exhibits four of his “selfies”, where his reflections are subtly seen through the glass, blending the photographer himself not only into the crowd but also into his works. The distance and interaction between the photographer and the photographic subjects add a perspective that he finds particularly intriguing, according to the release.
The 30 photographic works will be printed in limited editions for charity sale, all signed with Chow’s autograph. All proceeds will be donated to charitable organizations after deducting part of the costs. Meanwhile, Chow will share his photography insights in person on the first day of the exhibition.
Harbour City has specially produced a limited-edition print publication for the exhibition. Apart from designated distribution points across Hong Kong, visitors can receive a free copy of the publication onsite upon posting photos of the exhibition on designated social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram or Xiaohongshu with specific hashtags.
“The entire Central feels completely different in early hours. People from all walks of life are heading to work, serving this financial hub. I was (working) in Central (before my acting career) for quite a long time, so I have a deep connection with those streets for what I have personally experienced there," said Chow.
