GroupM has promoted Himanshu Shekhar, current CEO of GroupM Indonesia, adding the Vietnam office to his responsibilities. Shekhar (pictured) takes over the Vietnam CEO role from Neil Hardwick, who is returning to the UK to take up a new role outside WPP. Shekhar is a 20 year veteran of GroupM network and has been CEO of GroupM Indonesia since 2019. Before that, he was Mindshare CEO, Southeast Asia during 2014 to 2018.

He joined Mindshare's Indonesia operations in 2010 as MD for its Unilever business and was later promoted to CEO of the agency in December 2011. Shekhar said he is excited to be taking up this responsibility. "These are challenging times and I look forward to working closely with our clients, teams and media partners in Vietnam to help them unlock strong and sustainable growth," he added.

Ashutosh Srivastava, APAC CEO, said Shekhar is an “exceptional leader with a phenomenal track record”. He added that Shekhar is a hands-on leader who is passionate about this business, builds trusted relationships with clients and always puts people and culture first.

“I am delighted to have him at the helm for Vietnam and Indonesia and drive our vision to shape the next era of media, where advertising works better for people. Vietnam is not new to him. Obviously, this is fantastic news for GroupM Vietnam, our agencies and all our people to have an accomplished leader like him succeeding Hardwick,” Srivastava said.
