Regional head of strategy, partnerships and finance at GrabAds, James Sampson, has departed from his role after four years as he relocates back to the United States.
Sampson plans to be based in New York City and revealed to MARKETING-INTERACTIVE that he will be joining an early-stage technology company to help develop a new, innovative ecosystem sitting at the intersection of media and transactions.

Based in Singapore for nearly 10 years, Sampson first joined Grabads in July 2019 as the regional head of strategy and partnerships before being promoted to the regional head of strategy, partnerships and finance in July 2021 to build the ride-hailing app’s advertiser ecosystem.
In his previous role, Sampson launched the first version of Grab’s Merchant Self Service Advertising platform during Southeast Asia's COVID-19 lockdowns to provide merchants with the tools to be grow their business in a cost-efficient manner.
“I wanted to send a special thank you to Michael Baker, for the trust and support to move across the world and expand dataxu to Asia Pacific, and Ken Mandel, for welcoming me into Grab four years ago to help build GrabAds into what it is today,” said Sampson in a LinkedIn post.
Sampson is also a full-time advisor at interactive video platform Wootag, a role he took on in July last year.
Earlier this year, GrabAds named Rajiv Singh as head of GrabAds for Indonesia. In his new role, Singh will spearhead GrabAds’ Indonesia sales strategy and business development and drive demand for GrabAds’ advertising services among merchants, brands, and agencies.
Bringing more than 20 years of experience in digital advertising and monetisation, Singh previously held senior roles at companies such as Sony Pictures, Flipkart and Star TV among others across both India and Indonesia.
