Grab Malaysia has pledged RM1 million to MERCY Malaysia, it said in a statement. The move aims to extend crucial aid and humanitarian support to those in need through MERCY Malaysia’s Palestine Relief Fund.

This is the latest donation in Grab Malaysia’s partnership with MERCY Malaysia, which began in 2021.

Grab has also extended to users an option to contribute to this fund through GrabPay. Users can also convert their GrabRewards to support MERCY Malaysia’s ongoing efforts in Gaza.

“Grab Malaysia aims to meet the critical needs of those impacted by helping provide access to medicine, food, water and more, ensuring that their well-being is prioritised,” the statement read.

“It firmly emphasises its commitment to humanity and peace and unequivocally opposes any violence that threatens these basic human rights. The company supports all efforts dedicated to establishing a lasting peace that is true and just,” it added.

Grab Malaysia and MERCY Malaysia will be working to establish sustainable programmes and initiatives to help affected communities recover. From 8 November 2023 to 8 May 2024, Grab also pledged to match the amount donated to MERCY Malaysia’s Palestine Relief Fund via GrabRewards.

The new comes shortly after a controversial post by Grab co-founder Anthony Tan’s wife this week, in which she said that she “fell completely in love with Israel” after two trips there this year. Following public outcry, Grab took to social media on 6 November 2023 to share a statement on the matter.

It said that the unnamed individual had clarified that it was a post that was posted on a personal platform "weeks ago" and that it was "taken out of context to stir more hatred".

“We do not support any form of violence and as a participant of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), we are aligned with its principles, and respect the protection of human rights,” it added.
