Grab hunts for candidate to lead ad business unit in Malaysia

GrabAds, Grab's ad business unit launched in 2018, is on the hunt for an individual to lead GrabAds in Malaysia. In the role, the selected individual will source and sell through advertisers for campaigns with GrabAds across online and offline. The head of GrabAds in Malaysia is also expected to pitch leading advertisers directly and through their agencies, as well as work alongside the team and maintain a pipeline tracking towards a quarterly quota under the incentive scheme.

According to the job post on Grab's website, the individual will also work cross functionally with marketing, rewards, payments, food, enterprise and business development to package compelling solutions and identify new client opportunities. The individual's goal is multi-million dollar annual revenue generation and showing advertisers positive results.

Other list responsibilities include running local pitches, RFPs and joint business plans with key partners, and pipeline management, sales forecasting and key sales reports with business KPIs. The individual is expected to have at least 10 to 12 years of digital media sales experience in Malaysia, an extensive experience of working and selling to senior marketing leaders on the agency and brand side, and previous sales management and CRM experience, among others.

At the same time, GrabAds is also on the look out for a regional head of SMB advertising (merchants), who will define, implement, and drive the marketing services used by Grab’s mid market and SMB merchant base to promote and deliver ROI for their businesses.

The regional head of SMB advertising (merchants) for GrabAds will also manage a direct team of experts and collaborate cross functionally with leaders from GrabAds, GrabFood, Grab Financial Group, marketing and product and engineering to package compelling advertising solutions for broad adoption that will be utilised and supported via self service tools. The head of SMB will ultimately be responsible for business planning, day to day execution, and target achievement.

A quick check by A+M also found that GrabAds is hiring for other manager and executive roles across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. They include account manager, channel partner manager (fleet), sales analyst, and senior client partner (media sales), among others.

The hiring spree comes about three months after Grab announced that it was cutting its workforce by about 360 individuals, sunsetting non-core projects, consolidating functions for greater efficiency, and right-sizing teams to better match changing business needs given the external environment.

Founder Anthony Tan said in a blog post earlier this year that the company “tried everything possible to avoid this” but had to accept that the “difficult cuts” are required. He added that since February, the company has seen the stark impact of COVID-19 on businesses globally. At the same time, it has become clear that the pandemic will likely result in a prolonged recession and as such the firm will need to prepare for what may be a long recovery period.
