Grab Holdings has acquired popular Singapore restaurant reservation app Chope for an undisclosed sum. A spokesperson for Grab and Chope confirmed the acquisition.
“The vast majority of the merchants on our platform are small, medium-sized businesses who don’t have the same resources or know-how that big F&B brands have," said a Grab spokesperson when MARKETING-INTERACTIVE reached out.
"Our focus is to help level the playing field for them through tools that empower them to grow and manage their businesses more efficiently. We believe the addition of Chope’s products and services provides more synergies for our merchant-partners, especially in helping them capture online-to-offline opportunities," the spokesperson added.

The Chope app was founded in 2011 by entrepreneur Arrif Ziaudeen, and it has a presence in markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Phuket, Shanghai, Bali, and Jakarta.
According to Bloomberg, Grab it is taking over Chope’s operations in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand as part of the deal, and Chope staff will join Grab’s offices in a couple of weeks, BT reported.
The article also added that no redundancies will be made post the merger and Chope’s team will remain as a unit under Grab’s omnicommerce business.
“Chope has built products that have served and delighted countless restaurants and their customers for over a decade. We have proudly achieved so much on our journey, but considering today’s challenging and competitive market, we have chosen to seek a partner to help us pursue new opportunities for sustainable growth," said Arrif.
"We evaluated potential buyers and found the best fit with Grab - a company with a mission aligned to ours in connecting restaurants to diners. Together, we are poised to deliver even greater value to our customers and set new standards in a competitive industry. We’re excited to now be a part of the Grab family through this acquisition and are confident that the strength of their platform will enable us to achieve new heights," he added.
In 2022, Grab also acquired HungryGoWhere and relaunched the brand after the food site shut down. The revamped HungryGoWhere brand aims to address the growing interest of diners to reconnect with the local food scene in much deeper ways. The new brand retained its name and iconic red hue, in a nod to its longstanding legacy as a trusted food discovery platform in the F&B scene.
HungryGoWhere also leverages insights derived from Grab’s super app data, such as popular food trends and frequently visited places in Singapore, among a spectrum of other interests and preferences.
