GovTech nabs StanChart's Sachin Tonk as deputy chief data officer

Sachin Tonk has been appointed as the deputy chief data officer at the Government Technology Agency of Singapore (GovTech) Singapore. Tonk was last with Standard Chartered Bank holding the role of director of data privacy and operations for two years.
According to his LinkedIn post, Tonk (pictured) will be working under the leadership of Jason See, GovTech's senior director, data science and AI division and will be working with Joseph Tan, deputy director, and Feng Yuzhang, director, data science and AI division. Tonk was last with with Standard Chartered Bank for over six years with his last role being the data privacy and operations director.
Tonk has extensive experience in the data and analytics field, especially when it comes to delivering bespoke technology solutions by engaging agile and waterfall methodologies. He has experience working in areas such as business intelligence, business transformation, governance, migration and architecture, with abilities in leading high-performing, multi-cultural and cross-functional teams in the delivery of multiple concurrent projects and operations of technology solutions. He is seasoned in program and project management in banking and consulting Industry with a diverse professional exposure in international settings across India, Singapore, United Kingdom and the Middle East. He has worked in a range of companies such as Barclays Capital, Nucleus Software Exports, IBM, and Royal Bank of Scotland.
Last month, GovTech also announced its plans for more collaborations and joint activities with the Digital Agency of Japan which is a newly established entity just launched in September 2021. Digital Agency of Japan’s mandate is to upgrade the Japanese public sector’s online services and infrastructure. The three-year agreement will focus on the exchange of knowledge and experience in areas including digital identity, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud services and even digital technologies to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the National Digital Identity (NDI) front, for example, both countries will explore the mutual recognition of verified credentials for their residents’ digital identities. This will benefit digital trade and people-to-people flows between both countries. GovTech and Japan’s Digital Agency will also work on building mutual capabilities by sharing of skills and co-organising training courses, programmes and workshops – and supporting each other’s digital government events.
Separately, last August, GovTech had appointed performance marketing agency Reprise to manage its social media duties for a year, with an option to extend for another.
