Malaysia prime minister Anwar Ibrahim has said that government support will ensure that foreign investments proceed smoothly and that operations start according to schedule.

In a statement on X, Anwar said that he received a courtesy visit from Mubadala Energy chief executive officer Mansoor Mohamed Al Hamed where he was informed about the focus and progress of Mubadala Energy's investment in Malaysia. Mubadala Energy is an international energy company headquartered in Abu Dhabi.

The company, according to Anwar, is currently active in renewable energy and decarbonisation initiatives through investments in value chain development such as blue hydrogen and carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS).

Malaysia welcomes this investment plan which is also related to high-impact renewable energy projects, said the prime minister.

In the same statement, Anwar explained that the presence of strong investors such as Mubadala Energy which has investments in seven countries including Malaysia, is in line with the government's efforts to implement the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

PM Anwar has been focused on attracting foreign investments as of late. In April this year, he said that Malaysia’s political stability and clear economic policies have reportedly allowed it to gain world attention as a leading investment destination.

The policies that helped investors see the country’s strengths include Digital Transformation, NETR and New Industrial Master Plan 2030, added Anwar at the time.

However, he also stressed the need to develop an educated workforce as Malaysia’s investments from companies such as Infineon and Nvidia to name a few, require 30,000 engineers which Malaysia is unable to fully fulfil at the present moment.
